California’s First Black Settlement: Col. ALLENSWORTH STATE PARK
Col. Allensworth was born a slave, and eventually became the most decorated African American in Army history up until that point.
His next dream was to start a settlement founded, funded and governed by African-Americans, and eventually a university. The Tuskegee Of The West.
This state park is a physical piece of America’s story. The story of pioneering and entrepreneurship by black americans in the Old West.
