The scene from Boris Eifman’s Russian Hamlet

Today the music world celebrates the 163rd birthday of Gustav Mahler. The expressive and truly theatrical compositions of the brilliant Austrian composer more than once became the impetus for the creative imagination of Boris Eifman. In 1991, Mahler’s Suite from the Orchestral Works by J.S. Bach was performed in the ballet The Murderers, and in 1999 Mahler’s symphonies became the musical basis for the second act of the production Russian Hamlet. We invite you to watch a scene from the new choreographic version of the ballet about Prince Paul, in which fragments of Mahler’s Symphonies No. 2 and No. 3 are seamlessly intertwined. The recording was made on December 26, 2022 at a performance at the Alexandrinsky Theatre. The main parts are performed by Oleg Gabyshev (The Heir), Artyom Lepkov (Favorite of the Empress) and Igor Subbotin (The Ghost of the Heir’s Father). _____ Сегодня музыкальный мир отмечает 163-й день рождения Густава Малера.
