Israel destroys Gaza’s Great Omari Mosque, now reduced to rubble

During its brutal bombardment of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army demolished the 14-century-old Great Mosque of Gaza in Gaza City. With architectural features from both the Mamluk and Ottoman periods, the ’Great Omari Mosque’ is the third largest mosque in Gaza. Since October 7, Israel has destroyed nine publishing houses and libraries across the Gaza Strip, partially or completely demolished 21 cultural centres, three art and production studios and 20 historical buildings including mosques, churches and museums in the Old City.
