He ruled until his passing 25 years later. Edward ruled roughly 1,100 years ago from present day, 97 years after his great grandfather Egbert ascended to the throne, around 150 years before the total defeat of the Anglo-Saxons at the Battle of Hastings - around 750 years before King Charles I was beheaded.
