Mutable Instruments Beads VS Qubit Nebulae VS Ciat Lonbarde Cocoquantus. Which granular synth suits?
It’s Sunday, I’m swapping a few bits of Eurorack gear around and I thought I’d share a comparison of some of the granular sampling synths I have that loop and manipulate audio sources, including Mutable Instruments new Beads module.
I often use a mixture of hardware machines and software depending on whether I’m working on commercial projects and deadlines, or trying to get away from the computer and explore new sounds and stuff on my more experimental music.
I’ve tried lots of stuff over the years, Nebulae is the oldest one of the three demo’d here. I use this for finding interesting grooves/loops and mainly for recycling material I’ve put inside it via a USB stick. It sits in a small Erica Synths Pico case in the studio and can be used as a tool to help me come up with new ideas.
The Cocoquantus, I use a lot with the op-1, it tends to take a role for creating ambient textures which I often make away from the studio and capture on a field recorder. I sometimes take those recordings into Ableton and fini
