Sound Quiz (1953)

Montage of brief shots showing: trains, cars, ship’s funnel, football match, racing car, forge, carousel, cannon, tank, fireworks and machine gun. Pathe Studios, London. C/U presenter Eamonn Andrews with hands over ears, he turns to camera and introduces “another Pictorial sound quiz“. He picks up a sound effects records and puts it on player. C/U of stopwatch - 10 seconds pass in which the viewer has to guess what the mystery sound is. The answer is then revealed: C/U of woman’s hands stroking a comb. The game is then repeated with various objects: a telephone dialling tone, man brushing lapel of coat, two coins grinding together, Andrews chomping bit of celery (funny shot!) and woman crumpling piece of paper.
