Santa Esmeralda, a ballet by Penney de Jager Santa Esmeralda was a band founded by Leroy Gómez. He started his own band at the age of 14 and later joined Tavares. He went on tour with them in North America and Europe. In Paris, he was invited by Elton John to work on his album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. After this Gómez left Tavares and got to know the songwriters Nicolas Skorsky and Jean Manuel de Scarano. He founded the Santa Esmeralda band with them. The band’s first album was ’Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’ with Leroy Gómez as singer. The album was a great success in Europe, and was released worldwide by Casablanca Records. It reached #5 in the Dutch Top 40 on 17 September 1977. This is the Penney de Jager ballet version.
