Antonio Vivaldi is a name that is often undercredited in the classical music world. Many people only recognise him to have composed the 4 Seasons, however, Vivaldi is much more than that. This Concerto for 2 Violins, Strings and Continuo is a perfect example of this. The counterpoint gleams, the melodies sing amidst the intense complexity of the accompaniment… and yet, it all seems so simple. No wonder the great Johann Sebastian Bach considered him to be the best composer of all time.
This work is from Vivaldi’s Op. 3, L’estro Armonico. It is a set of 12 concertos for stringed instruments by
... Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, first published in Amsterdam in 1711. Vivaldi’s Twelve Trio Sonatas, Op. 1, and Twelve Violin Sonatas, Op. 2, only contained sonatas, thus L’estro armonico was his first collection of concertos appearing in print. Enjoy this wonderful Concerto from the great, Antonio Vivaldi. -WS
