Horrible: 15 Minutes Ago | FINAL WARNING Icelandic Meteorological Office Terrifies The Whole World! Volcanic activity returned on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwestern Iceland with a series of eruptions in mid January 2024. New fissures released lava near the town of Grindavík. A man-made barrier diverted some of the flow from a fissure far from the city, but Lava from a fissure closer to Grindavík swallowed several houses. The eruption occurred less than a month after another fissure opened several kilometers to the northeast. Map data was obtained with Thermal Independent Sensor 2 on the Landsat 9 satellite on January 16 2024 and overlaid on a digital elevation model of the area. Thermal Independent Sensor 2 detects thermal radiation in two wavelengths, revealing the amount of heat originating from the Earth’s surface. The lava flow from the January 2024 eruption appears the warmest (yellow), while the still warm December 2023 flow and the Blue Lagoon geothermal pool also stand out compared to the surrounding land which is relatively cooler. Light blue scattered clouds represent areas with the coldest temperatures.
