Jyväskylä is a Finnish city and municipality that lies in the western part of the Finnish LakeLand region. It is situated about 150 km away from Tampere, which is the third biggest city in Finland; and about 270 km away from Helsinki, which is the capital of Finland. As of 28 February 2023, Jyväskylä had 145,962 inhabitants, making it the most populous city in both Central Finland and the Finnish Lakeland. The city is known as the “Athens of Finland” because it has been a centre of education for a long time. Jyväskylä is also well-known for its achievements in science and technology, especially in information technology and renewable energy. The city has several research institutes, such as the University of Jyväskylä, JAMK University of Applied Sciences and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Jyväskylä is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, with lakes, forests, hills and islands.
