The Belgians, as owners, in their desire to surpass everyone, showed a human zoo

In 1958, the Expo-58 exhibition was held in Brussels. The World Exhibition started on April 17 and lasted until the end of October. Due to the post-war devastation, such exhibitions were not held for a long time, so each country tried to present itself from the best side. For example, the USSR presented a model of the nuclear icebreaker “Lenin and the world’s first passenger hydrofoil vessel “Raketa“. The Belgians, as owners, in their desire to surpass everyone, showed a human zoo. Obviously, in the understanding of the Belgians, this was normal, since having colonies such an attitude towards people was normal for them. However, the countries of Western Europe, Britain, and the USA have never hidden such an attitude towards people from the outside, in every possible way emphasizing their exclusivity and superiority. The Belgian Ministry of Colonies organized a “Congolese village“ at its exhibition pavilion at Expo-58. To do this, 700 residents of the Congo were brought to Europe, who were dressed up as savages. They were guarded by armed guards, not allowing them to leave the zoo village. The height of cynicism was the bust of the Belgian King Leopold II in front of the entrance. After all, it was he who established a regime in the Congo that can only be called genocide. В 1958 году в Брюсселе проводилась выставка Expo-58. Бельгийцы на правах хозяев в их стремлении всех превзойти показали человеческий зоопарк. Очевидно, в понимании бельгийцев это было нормально, так как имея колонии такое отношение к людям для них было в порядке вещей. Впрочем, такое отношение к людям извне страны Западной Европы, Британия, США никогда не скрывали, всячески выпячивая свою исключительность и превосходство. Бельгийское министерство колоний на Expo-58 устроило на своём выставочном павильоне “конголезскую деревню“. Для этого в Европу доставили 700 жителей Конго, которых вырядили как дикарей. Их охраняла вооруженная охрана, не позволяя покидать деревню-зоопарк. Верхом цинизма был бюст бельгийского короля Леопольда II перед входом. Ведь именно он установил в Конго режим, который иначе как геноцидом не назовёшь.
