EXERCISES FOR SCOLIOSIS… Does scoliosis treatment without surgery work?
Can a scoliosis be corrected? Sometimes, depending on the form of scoliosis you have. 80% of people with a scoliosis have an Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis—a bend and twist in the spine that develops as we grow during our early teenage years. In these cases, the bones grow with an uneven shape. We can’t change the shape of the bones, so in these cases the scoliosis cannot be straightened, but you can do exercises to keep this type of scoliosis healthy and mobile. But, other forms, like postural scoliosis can be corrected or improved. In these cases, physical therapy for scoliosis can really help.
If a child shows signs of scoliosis, they should always be assessed by a professional to ensure that the curve in the spine is not progressing. In severe, progressing cases, braces or even surgery may be needed.
DO THESE SCOLIOSIS EXERCISES BOTH SIDES REGARDLESS OF WHICH SIDE YOUR SCOLIOSIS IS!
Regardless of the side, shape, or level of your scoliosis, whether you have a C curve scoliosis or an S curve scoliosis, these scoliosis exercises should be done on both sides! The scoliosis stretches will STRETCH one side more because one side is always tighter. They will naturally STRENGTHEN one side more than the other because one side will struggle against the curve more. They will automatically MOBILISE one side more than the other because one side will be more restricted. But you don’t have to know where the curves are, or even think about it. Just do them regularly to get scoliosis pain relief and prevent long term issues from having a thoracic scoliosis or lumbar scoliosis.
