Trucker protests: Ottawa police provide update on security measures ahead of weekend | LIVE
Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly, Deputy Chief Steve Bell and Acting Deputy Chief Trish Ferguson will hold a news conference Friday morning about increased measures to protect the safety of downtown neighbourhoods and residents amid ongoing trucker protests.
The RCMP is sending more officers to respond to the anti-COVID-19 mandate protests, amid calls for a more aggressive response to the demonstrations heading into the weekend.
Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said in a statement Thursday night that RCMP had approved a request from the City of Ottawa for additional resources to help the Ottawa Police Service, including an increase in officers.
