Screaming de Havilland Departing BUR

Here is a screaming de Havilland Series 1A that is powered by Bristol Siddeley Viper 522 turbojets. There were only 62 -1A’s built. It became known as the Hawker Siddeley when they took over production in 1977 but this one was built prior to that. The noise at idle was so intense and shrill that Craig could not continue recording until the aircraft was turned away from him. I had flown on a -1A and the pilot said that the marshallers would routinely pass out when they went out there with no hearing protection. Shot by my friend Craig Pilkington (Aviation Media ©).
