THE WAITING GAME | DAY 3 HIGHLIGHTS - TORBOLE WORLD CUP

Top seeds survive unscathed before the wind shuts down. Some of the locals were slightly surprised that it was windy first thing on day three of the Torbole PWA World Cup, so with winds of 6-15 knots the race crew wasted little time in beginning the Men’s second elimination promptly at 7:45am. Unfortunately, the wind didn’t quite stick around long enough to enable to completion of the second race, so there are no changes to the overnight rankings meaning that Alexandre Cousin (Patrik / Patrik Sails / Patrik Foils) and Femke van der Veen (Starboard / Severne Sails) continue to occupy pole position. Before the wind died, three out of the fourth quarterfinals were completed and there were no upsets in sight with all of the top seeds safely progressing into the quarterfinals with their expertise in the lighter airs proving decisive. Amado Vrieswijk (Future Fly Boards / Severne Sails) was able to claim a convincing victory in Heat 6 ahead of Ingmar Daldorf (Tabou / GA Sails), Nico Prien (JP / NeilPryde) and Ennio dal Pont (Fanatic / Duotone), whilst Will McMillan (Starboard / Challenger Sails / Patrik Foils) continues to look extremely impressive. The 17-year-old was able to win Heat 7 ahead of Johan Soe (FMX Racing / Point-7), Michele Becker (Patrik / Patrik Sails / Patrik Foils) and Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / Duotone / Chopper Fins / Phantom Foils). In what turned out to be the last heat of the day, Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Severne Sails) looked confident again as he booked his spot in the semifinals as did Benoit Merceur (Starboard / Severne Sails), reigning world champion Maciek Rutkowski (FMX Racing / Challenger Sails) and Jordy Vonk (Fanatic / Duotone).
