1970 Ford Torino Super Cobra Jet 429 vs 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Heavy Chevy - Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race (FAST factory stock) Our first car is a 1972 Chevy Chevelle “Heavy Chevy“ and its opponent is a 1970 Ford Torino Super Cobra Jet. The Chevelle Heavy Chevy was aimed at buyers who didn’t want to spring for the added cost of the Super Sport, but still wanted decent performance. With the Chevelle Heavy Chevy you had a few engine options with the largest being the, “400,“ which was actually a 402ci big block. The 454 was not an option, as that was reserved only for the super sport package (SS454). And even though this isn’t as popular or well known as a 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6, it’s still incredibly special. A 3-speed, 4-speed, or TH400 automatic were available with the 402 V8.
