Put Some Respect On Haiti! (Part 1) #Shorts #Haiti #Freedom #Slavery #Respect

Haiti became the world’s first free Black republic in 1804 after fighting for freedom from slavery. Then, for over a century, Africans from the Americas and the continent regarded it as a destination, a promised land for formerly enslaved and oppressed people. As the podcast ‘Olay and Friends’ discusses, the world needs a reminder that powerful forces have attempted to suppress this Caribbean jewel’s history. The country continues to be ravaged by foreign intervention and interference by powers including France and the United States, which many say collaborate with Haiti’s primarily white bourgeoisie settler class. Further, many Haitians have expressed that anti-Haiti sentiment within the broader Black community has alienated Haitians for years. Is Haiti the black sheep of the Caribbean? Did you grow up learning to hate Haiti? If so, do you still look down on this Black jewel? If not, what changed your mind?
