To start, let’s check out the stats. The Mk8 Golf R has a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine that makes 320hp and 420Nm of torque. That power goes to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This car weighs 1476kg and costs around £43,000 when new. The Mk7 Golf R has a similar 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine that produces 300hp and 380Nm of torque. It comes with four-wheel drive, and the power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The car weighs in at 1,500kg, and when new the Mk7 R costs around £32,000.
