Three Improvisations - an exercise in Vulnerability and Determination.

I improvise pretty much all the time. A lot of times I improvise on different instruments to tracks that I’ve already recorded. It’s one way that I come up with ideas, work out parts, and get outside of the habits of my conscious musicianship. The other day I thought: I should do 3 improvisations, one take each, on guitar, drums, and bass. No restarting, no stopping to dial in better sounds, etc. And then I thought, as an act of vulnerability and freedom, I should film it and put it online, warts and all. So, that is precisely what this is. Me, improvising with myself, with no do-overs. I go into a different headspace, a kind of combination of hyper focus and semi-unconscious state when I know that I won’t be able to try again, punch in, or refine anything. “This truck is rolling forward and it’s going to crush everything in it’s path.” And like an out of control truck, it does get ugly.
