Breastfeeding and Lactation

Lactation is the process of producing and releasing milk from the mammary glands in your breasts. When your baby suckles, it stimulates nerves that tell your body to release prolactin and oxytocin. Oxytocin causes muscle contractions that push out the milk of the alveoli through the milk ducts and prolactin causes the alveoli to make milk.
