Very Ornate 1891 Door Knob Set Restoration | Random Restoration

Welcome! Today I will be continuing my hardware restoration spree by restoring an old ornate bronze door knob set, manufactured by Mallory Wheeler (&) Co. in the 1890s. Old ornate hardware like this is usually has some damage, but the door knob I started to restore was in very rough shape. Not only was it rusted to the spindle, but the front of the design had significant damage from someone’s previous attempt at removing the very rusty spindle. My door knob removal (from the spindle) attempt started with a two week soak in the rust remover, followed by a lot of penetrating fluid. In the end I was forced to use a cutting disc to cut off the spindle. I then used a grinding disc to grind the spindle flat prior to drilling it out. Then I filed the spindle until I was able to peel it off and eventually remove it.
