Frozen Night - Unsung

“Sing my song and become nothing“ This song is a bit difficult to explain, but I’ll do my best. If you have not read it yet and do not want to be spoiled, please do not read further. Back in December/January, I started reading Background Pony. It was mostly to keep myself occupied while I was traveling this past winter, and I never finished reading it back in the day because of the time commitment required. (500K words!) It is an engaging read, and I enjoyed every minute reading it to the point where I grew too immersed within the story and Lyra. The last chapter was difficult to get through, but it motivated me to work on this piece. This song is not meant to be the ten elegies. I felt there was no need to reinvent the wheel, as a couple of musicians have already done so. I chose to musically recreate Lyra’s adventure into the unsung realm and confronting Aria. It is broken up into four parts each retelling her multiple journeys through the realm in different ways. For example, the part at 2:15 is more of a soundscape-ish interpretation of the realm that leads up to Aria’s reveal, while the part at 4:15 is what I believed Desolation’s Duet sounded like. The song concludes on Lyra making the final decision. Originally, I had lyrics written and a vocalist lined up for it, but I had to forfeit them at the last minute. I won’t get into details why, but it boiled down to them not meshing well with the instrumental. On an unrelated note, work on the EP continues.
