5000 monks and the Royal Ballet of Cambodia at Angkor Wat temple

December 3, 2017. More thanks 5000 of orange-clad monks joined Cambodian government for an offering ceremony for the peace at the West entrance of Angkor Wat temple. The Royal Ballet of Cambodia, accompanied by the pin peat ensemble of the Royal Palace, offered a propitiatory dance called Buong Suong (បួងសួង). It is one of the most ancient dances of the classical Khmer repertoire. It invokes the spirits of the deceased sovereigns to bring peace and prosperity to the Kingdom of Cambodia. It was one of the rare occasions to see the Royal Ballet in a ritual setting. © Patrick Kersalé 2018
