CHINA’S ARTIFICIAL SUN

Today’s nuclear reactors work on fission method in which energy is produced by dividing the nucleus of heavy atoms into two or more nuclei of lighter atoms. Even though, Fission method is easier to achieve it produces nuclear waste that goes into the ocean. To solve the waste problem, China started HL-2M program and created a device that works on ’Fusion’ method instead. They call it ’The Artificial Sun.’ HL-2M fuses the atoms of lighter Hydrogen atoms into Helium producing enormous amounts of energy in the process without generating large quantities of nuclear waste. HL-2M used magnetic fields to compress Hydrogen until it creates plasma that can reach temperatures up to 150 million °C about 10 times hotter than the nucleus of the Sun.
