In Iceland, on the Reykjanes peninsula, the Litli Hrutur volcano began to erupt. Iceland’s youngest volcano formed two weeks ago after an underground eruption that caused a 2.7 km ( mi) crack in the ground. The eruption was preceded by seismic activity - more than 7,000 tremors in the region.
The crater filled with lava to the brim and began to throw “lava bombs“ far beyond its borders. A few hours later, a gap formed, from which lava began to seep, which eventually led to a partial collapse of the walls of the crater.
The fiery river flowed in two directions: to the north and to the west. According to scientists, the temperature of the lava erupting from the crater is approximately 1,200 °C (2,192 °F).
A powerful sandstorm has hit the Mexican state of Sonora. A huge cloud from the desert, looking like a tsunami in the sky, suddenly appeared on the horizon, frightening the locals. Then the storm hit the residential areas of the city of Guaymos. Within minutes, the wall of sand and dust blotted out the sun and the sky turned dark brown.
Visibility almost instantly became zero, and it was possible to breathe only through protective equipment. Local authorities have advised residents to stay at home and not go out unless necessary.
Ebeko volcano eruption, on Paramushir island, Kuril archipelago, Russia.
A violent storm with gale-force winds hit Italy, destroying or damaging dozens of buildings. In the commune of Bubbiano in the province of Lombardy, a storm swept cars off the road, fortunately, there were no casualties. In the city of Cinisello Balsamo, roads were blocked due to fallen trees. A tornado was observed in the vicinity of Milan, which littered the streets with fallen trees and debris from damaged buildings.
Consequences of forest fires in the capital region of Greece, near Athens. The fire on the island of Rhodes, about which we posted a video earlier, is still not extinguished and continues to rage.
