Warsaw, Poland - September 1947.
Various shots of a huge gathering of youth on Bank Square, Warsaw. Several people hold banners. C/U of Mr. Skrzeszewski, Polish Minister of Education, addressing them (mute).
A group of adults walk through the rubble of the city, followed by young teenage girls. Young men who are working to clear the rubble raise their shovels and cheer as they walk past.
Various good shots of young people clearing up debris, girls doing heavy work as well as the boys. The shell of a building in the background towers above the level ground where the buildings have been razed, while in the foreground a team of young workers push a tip car along a rail. (These shots give some idea of the terrible devastation of Warsaw.)
It looks like rebuilding work is also being done. People stand around watching a bulldozer clear earth from flattened areas around the city streets.
