In this month’s “In The Labs” at Christmas, support engineer Nav shows us how to make a seasonal Christmas snowflake lantern as a quick and easy way to help you decorate your home or create gifts for your Christmas themed Etsy shop. This simple single sided VCarve project is perfect for beginners to tackle, or for the more experienced users who are looking for fun ideas to keep those children or grandchildren busy with Christmas crafting. Nav shows you how to design this single-sided lantern in VCarve using two different snowflakes to give contrasting designs to the lantern front, back and sides. He then machines the snowflake using a VBit profile v-carving toolpath to give a clever 3D effect and using the new simulation tool, he manipulates the 3D view to check the layout and run the physical toolpaths before cutting and assembly.
