LIVE: View of Kabul airport as evacuation flights continue

Ruptly is live near Kabul airport on Monday, August 23, as evacuation flights continue for foreign nationals and Afghans wishing to leave the country following the Taliban takeover. Thousands of people have tried to flee Afghanistan since August 15 when Kabul fell to the Taliban, as Afghans fear reprisals and a return to authoritarian rule. Kabul’s airport has seen days of chaos with people desperately trying to get inside the airport through Taliban checkpoints and board one of the Western evacuation flights. On Monday, several Afghans plunged to their deaths while clinging to the sides of a US military cargo plane. Despite the tragic incident, the crowds kept growing over the past week, hindering operations. Another seven Afghans have died in the crowds near the airport on Sunday, according to the British military.
