The Thousand Islands Bridge (1938)

Titles read: “THE THOUSAND ISLANDS BRIDGE“. United States of America (USA) and Canada. President Franklin D Roosevelt sits in an open car with Canadian Prime Minister MacKenzie King. They both hold one side of a pair of scissors and snip through a ribbon across the new Thousand Islands Bridge between Canada and America. They are driven over the bridge at the official opening ceremony. Roosevelt makes a speech on a platform in Canada, saying the bridge stands as an open door, that where the boundaries are crossed the only words will be “Pass, friend“. Roosevelt is made a Doctor of Law by the Canadians and in ceremonial robes makes another speech, acknowledging Canada as part of the British Empire and says the Americans will not stand idly by if domination of Canadian soil is threatened by any other empire. Cataloguer’s note: I love Roosevelt! Old database record states British Ambassador Joseph P Kennedy is in this item, but I cannot see him. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE
