1889-1890: Early Kodak Photographs by Alexandra of Denmark (Remastered photo gallery)

Here we have one of the earliest surviving “family slideshow“ type photograph collections by Alexandra of Denmark (1844-1925) of the royal family in 1889 and 1890. In 1888 Kodak released a super portable hand camera which was a revolution at the time. Alexandra (then known as the Princess of Denmark) got a model, and these pictures have survived today in very good quality. Very typically portraits of the 1800s are very serious and staged, so it is shocking to see candid pictures of a family so long ago. The circular frame put out by the early camera is very pleasing and drew me in. There are some other surviving Kodak pictures from around this time, but not many. As usual I have worked on every image. After compiling and ordering the pictures together where they seemed to have been shot the same day, I then boosted brightness/contrast on the very faded pictures, fixed rotation errors and generally tried to sharpen/balance everything together. The background music is various pieces by Handel from the violin/piano Youtube channel klaus195
