A Belarusian athlete in Japan for the Olympic Games has taken refuge in the Polish embassy in Tokyo. Krystsina Tsimanouskaya was granted a humanitarian visa on August 2, 2021, and plans to leave for Poland in the coming days, according to Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz. The 24-year-old Olympic sprinter had refused her team’s instructions to board a flight home the previous day. She said she was removed from the Games for criticising Belarusian Olympic team officials for entering her in a race without prior notice.
