Battle of Philippi - 42 BC - Marc Antony & Octavian meet on the battlefield near Philippi in Macedonia for two famous battles of the wars of the Second Triumvirate. The first one ended in a stalemate but Cassius committed suicide thinking the battle was lost. In this video, you will witness the second battle of Philippi against Octavian/Mark Antony duo and Brutus representing the Republican army. Brutus held the most advantageous position as he was receiving supplies by sea while Mark Antony was depended on the local lands for supply. He sent two legions to Achaia to rectify the situation. Mark Antony advanced with a few legions seeking a more favorable position for battle and found a small hill near the Republican army’s abandoned camp. When he arrived, the rest of Antony’s legions along with Octavian and his army arrived. Brutus was forced to draw up his army in a battle line, pressured by the impetuous soldiers in his army seeing how some mercenaries already deserted. Fearing widespread desertion, he decided to do battle with the Triumvirate army. Mark Antony was facing Brutus directly on the western side of the battlefield while Octavian placed his army on the eastern side.
