This McDonald’s commercial has stirred a bit of attention in the Western anime community, but yet I don’t think anyone’s made subtitles for it yet. So allow me to put forward my attempt! ... Not that we should’ve expected anything all that exciting from this ad, it seems pretty basic, showing Violet take on a part-time job and learning to really enjoy it.
If anyone wants me to translate anything from Japanese at all, let me know! I’d prefer to do print things over audio or video things, but I’m still open to anything!
Here’s the description from the original video:
““Connecting to my future“ AKB48 Yui Yokoyama x Team 8 Rin Okabe x Studio Colorido
College student Violet visits McDonald’s for the first time for a bite. Surrounded by a bunch of people, she gets better at work day by day, and grows. Main character Violet’s voice is provided by AKB48 Team 8’s Okabe Lin. General manager Hoshino-senpai is voiced by AKB48’s Yui Yokoyama. Studio Colorido is the animation studio; they paid a lot of attention to actual stores to portray the appearance of a bustling McDonald’s.
McDonald’s is looking to fill part-time jobs. Just like Violet, why don’t you become a member of the crew? Surely there is a job that is perfect for you.“

Translation notes:
I still have a long way to go with learning Japanese, so if there’s anything I got wrong, let me know! I’ll post a text document with my transcription and translations soon.
The scene with Hoshino, Violet, and three boys, near the beginning of the video, was particularly hard for me. I interpreted it in one of two ways: either the boys were jokingly trying to flirt with her, Violet got embarrassed, and Hoshino responded by saying “Do you want to wait for your order, or leave?“; otherwise, the boys were just asking for a “Smile“ meal option, Violet got too nervous to act, and Hoshino asked the boys to wait while she handles the order. It mainly comes down to what Hoshino had said that determined what the situation was, but I couldn’t really translate it well. If people have a better idea of what the line was about, please let me know!
For those who don’t know, “senpai“ basically means “senior“, as in “I am your superior“. Also, “-san“ is what’s called an honorific; it’s similar to “Mr.“ or “Mrs.“ in English.
I do not have any rights to the original content.
