This is a song about learning how to dream when we are children and then holding on to those dreams (and the ability to dream) as we grow older. Faith Hill is singing here, but the story belongs to singer/songwriter Lori McKenna. Lori understood that when she was a child she was taught to dream; the song implies that it was fairytale characters who taught her, and that’s probably partly true, but she also learned it from her parents. When she was young she dreamed of becoming a singer/songwriter, and by golly, she did. Good for her!
