His real name is Bruno Reuter. He was born in Cologne, Germany in 1956. He had been interested in music since childhood, but chose a career as a graphic designer. Once he had an accident on his motorcycle and was in a coma for a long time, which prompted him, upon coming out of the coma, to rethink his life and to reassess his values. In 1979 he went to Osho’s ashram in Pune, India, where he received initiation and took a new spiritual name, Karunesh, which means “compassion“ in Sanskrit. There he met Doiter, Govi and Anugama, after which he decided to become a professional musician. Karunesh returned to Germany and lived in the Rajneesh commune in Hamburg for five years. At the same time he developed as a musician, communicating with other musicians and creating light, meditative melodies. Karunesh’s music has strong Eastern influences, primarily Indian folk music. It combines the sound of modern synthesizers with the sound of gentle bells, and the sound of flutes with the singing of birds and the murmuring of water. Karunesh also uses traditional Indian musical instruments (primarily the sitar). In 1984 Karunesh released his first album Sounds of the Heart, which was met with success. Later he released a number of other albums, which became classics of the “new age“ style.
