GoPro Hero 3+ EXTERNAL MICROPHONE TEST resistor value

Testing the resistor value needed inside the mini USB plug, ( ID pin to ground) for selecting an external microphone. Strangely it seems that it works at a low value (47K etc) and a high value (330K) but cuts out if using an intermediate value?! ....that’s weird
