Two nitro dragsters fail to achieve their goals and yet somehow produce an entertaining race. Can you recall a race that was similarly strange and yet awesome? This chaotic sequence from the 2012 Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway in Australia was not short on drama. Both Allan Dobson (left lane) and Phil Lamattina (right lane) had their engines explode at almost exactly the same time, rendering the 10,000hp Top Fuel dragsters (the same in Australia as you see in the NHRA) powerless. What followed was one of the strangest, slowest and yet brilliant races ever seen from the nitro cars. Would you believe the race ended up being decided on a holeshot?
