LAS VEGAS - Severe thunderstorms from the summer monsoon caused flash flooding in parts of Las Vegas Friday morning. Heavy rains turned roads into lakes and several vehicles were stranded or drowned on flooded roads. Rainfall totals reached to inches or more Friday morning with short, heavy rains. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Las Vegas and other parts of southern Nevada, warning residents of high winds, small hail and heavy rain. The flooding came hours after Phoenix was rocked by storms that created a wall of dust. Several flights to Sky Harbor International Airport were diverted and a soccer game at Arizona State University was postponed due to the bad weather . The evening commute to Las Vegas was also affected by flooding from additional heavy rain and storms.
