Protests spread in Yemen and Iran as US, Britain launch new airstrikes on Houthi targets

The U.S. military has launched another airstrike on Houthi targets in Yemen on Saturday local time. Thousands of Yemenis in the Houthi rebel-controlled capital, Sanaa, demonstrated on Friday following a wave of U.S. led strikes across rebel-controlled areas of the country. Meanwhile, protesters gathered outside the British embassy in Tehran on Friday (January 12) to condemn U.S. and British strikes on Yemen. The Houthis, who have controlled most of Yemen for nearly a decade, said five fighters had been killed in a total of 73 air strikes. They vowed to retaliate and continue their attacks on shipping, which they say are intended to support Palestinians against Israel.
