French AASM ’Hammer’ bombs used for first time to destroy Russian bases in Ukraine
Ukraine has begun using a new kind of bomb donated by France to wreck Russian bases near the Dnipro River in the south of the country. AASM ‘Hammer’ is a precision guided bomb that has been adapted to be used on Ukrainian MiG jets, and can drop a warhead of up to 1 ton within 3ft of a target, with a range of up to 45 miles. Video shows just how destructive these warheads are, as they demolished Russian bases hidden inside large buildings with apparent ease. Two were so badly hit that nothing but rubble remained afterwards. A third was also hit, but damage was inconclusive. The AASM is Ukraine’s answer to the Russian FAB glide bombs that are being used in increasingly large numbers to demolish Ukrainian defences and proved pivotal in Putin’s armies seizing the city of Avdiivka last month. #russia #ukraine #war
