Linear Shaped Charge to Sever a 110-ksi Steel Plate (2”-thick Planar Plate)

The linear shaped charge, which is made of a core explosive, case and V-shaped top liner, can sever a plate within 400 micro-seconds. Upon detonation, the explosive gas pressure transforms the top liner into a condensed blade. It has supersonic velocity, easily cutting a high strength steel plate with 2”-thickness. The cutting performance can be improved by combining CAD optimization and a hydrocode simulation.
