Hats (1953)

Piccadilly, London. M/S of a man looking in a hat shop window - Dunn and Co of Piccadilly. Several C/Us of hats in the window display. Pathe cameraman Stan Goozee carries his camera to a concealed position inside the shop. He sets up his equipment behind a mirror and fixes drapes around it. The idea is that he will film a customer without their knowledge. A customer comes inside and we see him trying on different kinds of hats with the help of an assistant. He tries out a bowler hat, a check hat with top strap, a deerstalker, sombrero, pork pie trilby and tartan check cap. Nice C/Us of Stan filming and laughing during this sequence. Note: cutting and notes on file state that the hat shop makes outlandish hats for window displays to attract customers, but people keep coming in to buy them - usually Americans!
