Protesters demand economic reforms as Nigeria marks 64th year of independence
On Nigeria’s independence day, demonstrators gathered to protest economic policies tied to the US-based International Monetary Fund. They called for better opportunities for young people as the West African nation marked 64 years of independence from British colonial rule.
We spoke with a member of the Nigerian Joint Action Front, Akinkunmi Olawoyin, who stated that the country’s dire economic situation stems from IMF-imposed policies.
