Salin - “Egungun“ - Live in Thailand

“When you make peace with the past version of yourself, is the only way that you can be free from pain.“ “Egungun” is named after a short film called, Masquerade (Egungun). In the film, the main character revisits her childhood life in Nigeria and makes peace with her past. The song talks about how uncomfortable revisiting your past can be but as Salin explains, “When you make peace with the past version of yourself, it is the only way that you can be free from pain.“ The song features Farhan Remy, a bornean/singaporean trumpeter, telling a story through his trumpet in the first part of the song. The ‘B’ section expresses the state of duality. The melody opens up afterward, that gives a sense of freedom.
