Rescuing a baby flying-fox fallen onto a roof: this is Windsong
Windsong is a 17 day old baby Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was noticed hanging alone in a very tall tree for 24 hours before she fell onto the roof and was rescued by the members of public.
She was being harassed by the local birds on the day before rescue. One of them has slashed at her eyelid, causing a deep laceration of the lid margin, which needed stitching.
Apart from the eyelid laceration and mildly swollen wrists she appears fine, if quite dehydrated and exhausted.
She’s had her eyelid stitched and her wrist swelling is mostly gone. She’s a skinny little soul who may be a “dropped twin“. Her mum left her for 24 hours and didn’t try to find her on either of the following nights. Windsong is about the right age/weight where mum would have trouble carrying and feeding more than one baby of this size.
