This technique relies on the principle of working at the same voltage, which is key to protecting workers from electric shock when handling live power lines.
As the worker approaches the power line using the helicopter, they are connected to the line so that both the worker and the line are at the same electrical potential. This means there is no voltage difference between the worker and the line, and therefore, no current passes through the worker’s body. Electric current always flows from a higher voltage to a lower voltage, but since the worker and the power line are equal in voltage, no current flows.
