Tell Your Fortune, Lady? (1936)

Titles read: ’Tell your fortune, Lady? A Card Cameo’. Pathe Studio, London. M/S of a woman’s hands shuffling a pack of cards. We then see a woman in gypsy costume sitting at a table with two other women, shuffling their cards. Animated diagrams explain what the different suites of the cards mean in fortune telling. Spades mean trouble! In a spade-shaped frame we see two women arguing and one slapping the other round the face (not very convincing). Diamonds mean riches so in a diamond frame we see a woman in an evening dress trying on jewellery. Clubs refer to business matters; in a club-shaped frame a woman is seen at a typewriter. Hearts mean... “well, what do you think?“. In a heart frame a woman is kissed by a man. Animated sequence shows what individual cards mean, such as Jack of Hearts meaning a lover, King of Clubs meaning a business friend and so on.
