David Shapiro performs “Mercy“ by Max Richter at Patriot Ice Center (2023)

US Skater David Shapiro performs his exhibition piece to @maxrichtermusic’s “Mercy“, at the Patriot Figure Skating Club’s 2nd Annual Ice Show in May 2023. The program is choreographed by David’s long time choreographer Irina Romanova and himself. David’s words on the piece: “From my understanding the piece was written as a metaphor of our worlds socio-political spheres: a world lacking in “mercy” but more specifically tolerance, acceptance, and equality. In the album, the piece is supposed to be a balance point between what the world is right now and a potentially better future. Personally I feel like the program is more focused on what the world right now has been lacking for centuries—human equity—and less on hope.“ Filmed by Jordan Cowan of @OnIcePerspectives, with assistance from MacKenzie Gillespie, on May 6th, 2023, at Patriot Ice Center in Newark, Delaware.
