Mandatory Credit: Ukrainian President’s Press Service Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Alexey Danilov made ironic comments on the situation at the Crimean Peninsula suffering from massive floods, speaking in Kiev on Friday. “You know that the Crimean Peninsula has been asking for water for a very long time. There is so much water there today, so that they don’t even know what to do with it. Yesterday in Ukrainian Kerch, today in Ukrainian Yalta, unfortunately, such a [tragedy] happened there ... God gave them too much water at once,“ said the official. The Crimean Peninsula suffered water shortages since 2014 after Ukraine blocked off North Crimean canal that had been providing 90 percent of fresh water to the region. It happened following what Ukraine and western countries consider Crimea’s annexation by Russia. The floods in Crimea killed at least one person forcing the authorities to declare the state of emergency. #CrimeaFloods
