Why do some clouds have holes in them?

Have you ever seen a cloud that looks like a hole punch has gone through it? Those may be fallstreak holes, which occur when supercooled water particles are disturbed (sometimes by passing aircraft) and turn into ice crystals that fall through the cloud.
